Demold Moulds the Easy Way

Demold Moulds the Easy Way
16 February 2023

Demolding gummies, candy and other confections can be time consuming when pressing out individual cavities one at a time. When your production volume increases to the point where this is not practical, you will want to invest in a demolder (also spelled demoulder). A mould (mold) demolder will dramatically increase your productivity and result in other benefits as well.

Confections will be released from your mould simultaneously when using a demolder. Depending on the type of demolder selected and your mould size will determine the exact output per stroke, so can range from 50 to 160 pieces or more.

Demolders can be found in convenient table-top versions or integrated into medium to large cooking and depositing candy processing systems. Moulds are turned upside down and pressed with a die or blown out using compressed air.

All demolders are custom designed to fit specific moulds. Depending upon the type of mould you are currently using and the demolder selected will determine if you are able to use your existing moulds or if new moulds must be purchased. Even when new moulds must be purchased, your output will quickly offset this price.

TABLE TOP DEMOLDERS

Table-top demolders are designed to easily fit on any standard working surface, taking up a minimal footprint. Machine dimensions start at 20" x 20" X 8.25" and are light enough in weight to be moved with convenience as needed. Some demoulders are designed to work only with particular moulds but others can can be used with a variety of silicone moulds ranging from thin to very thick. Thicker molds are likewise more expensive but typically last longer than thin silicone molds, so both are widely used and may be preferred by particular applications.

For customers wishing to eliminate labor and repetitive task injuries that can occur with constant use, a pneumatic table-top demoulder is ideal. This type of confectionery machinery releases all cavities of your mould simultaneously by pressing buttons to engage airflow, instead of pulling a handle. Moulded candies are discharge in 3 to 5 seconds without harm to your product or employees.  Automatic table-top demolders are more expensive to purchase but can quickly outweigh associated labor costs.

INTEGRATED DEMOLDERS

Medium to larger gummy production manufacturing lines will incorporate an automatic demolding station. This type of processing line may consist of cookers / mixers, holding tanks, a depositor, demoulder, and some form of cooling and/or curing. Molds are typically attached to one another for a continuous flow through the line and are turned to demold confections using a mechanical push system or using compressed air.

Confectionery recipe ingredients may need to be altered to optimally work with equipment selected and to produce professional results.

BENEFITS OF DEMOLDING

Demolding is an important process in obtaining a nice looking confectionery product. Demolding using a demolder will allow you to produce more high-quality product faster, reducing labor hours, and will increase employee engagement without task injuries.
